Self Elected Project 2005 - Example 7

I wanted the wheels to look as realistic as possible as I feel that they are one of the most noticed features on a car. As I intended on showing some close-ups of the wheels I felt that the tyres had to be advanced meshes instead of advanced maps with opacity values generating the tread. I used the spline modelling technique to develop a small section of the tread which I the duplicated and bent into the tyre shape. To texture the tyre I used a simple black colour with a low reflectivity level but also added a fine level of noise to the tread to show use and wear.

In order to make the alloy I again used the spline modelling technique to make a small section of the wheel and then used the lathe tool to make the rest. To texture the alloy I used a simple grey colour with a dark specula tint to make it look quite old and darkened. In order to portray rust on the alloy I added a noise bump to show rust beneath the surface (bubbling).
